Authorities continue to search for a plane believed to have crashed Tuesday afternoon in rural southern Nash County.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol is conducting flyover patrols in the area, said Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone, who is a retired state trooper.
An air traffic controller received information about a plane in distress and witnesses heard or spotted a troubled plane Tuesday afternoon, but a search of the area near N.C. 231 in Middlesex yielded no crash site.
Authorities are also waiting to hear any information about missing flights.
