Launched in 2010, Pitch for Detroit is a one-day sports tournament, fundraiser and reunion for young adults living in Detroit and across the country to reconnect with their community and come home for a worthy cause. “Pitch” has grown to host hundreds of players and spectators who raise tens of thousands of dollars for a different Detroit-based cause each year. For the third year, our sport of choice is kickball (because who doesn’t love kickball?)! And it wouldn’t be a NEXTGen Detroit event without some WOWs, so we set up shop around the fields to create a great day of food, music and a few special surprises.

NEXTGen Detroit President:
The Mack Lot is a new outdoor community space that brings people together through arts and culture, food and recreation, anchoring the revitalization of Mack Avenue as a pedestrian friendly corridor. The space will feature a publicly available performance stage, children’s playground and public work spaces. Located in the heart of the 48214 community, the Mack Lot leverages two adjacent projects: The Commons, a combination coin laundry and coffee shop and D&D Storage, an adaptive reuse retail shop. Funds raised at Pitch for Detroit will go directly to building the performance stage and play space for the kids.
What is MACC Development?
MACC Development is made up of a team of professional and volunteer community leaders who are committed to holistic community development, one that equitably and thoughtfully integrates care and concern for the spiritual, physical, and social conditions of the 48214 neighborhood. The MACC team has chosen to work exclusively in a zip code on the east side of Detroit. It’s where they live, raise their families and will remain to promote the value, dignity and worth of the 48214.
MACC Development believes that community development happens best when organizations step outside the shadow of top-down approaches and on to the front-porches of their neighbors. To that end, MACC strives to account for the uniqueness of every block and neighborhood in the 48214 with the guiding belief that community development begins and ends with the empowerment of the families and individuals. MACC Development is not merely about ideas, initiatives, plans or projects: they are first and foremost about people.
