Mendelssohn Sonata for Violin and Piano in F Major Mendelssohn composed three violin sonatas over the course of eight years. The one we hear today is the final of the three. An extremely ambitious work, the first draft of the Violin Sonata is dated June 15, 1838, which suggests that Mendelssohn intended to introduce it in Leipzig the following winter.
