EPPD police officer accused of killing pedestrian in New Year's Day hit

A man accused of killing a man with his vehicle was a police officer when the hit-and-run happened on New Year's Day. Roberto Garcia was a police officer for the El Paso Police Department when he struck Eduardo Vasquez with his vehicle on Jan. 1, according to a spokesperson with the department. The spokesperson said he was an officer with the Westside Regional Command Center but has been relieved of duty. Garcia was arrested Wednesday in connection to the death of the 37-year-old.
