MIFFLINBURG – Lots of damage but no tornado in western Union County Wednesday, so said officials after examining downed trees and wires after strong hit The Valley. It was simply high winds, but not a tornado, that caused heavy damage near RB Winter State Park in the Mifflinburg region Union County EMA Coordinator Michelle Dietrich provided that update to WKOK. She says National Weather Service officials classified the winds as a ‘downburst’ with winds about 80 mph Dietrich says weather service officials did not indicate tornadic activity based on radar and pictures submitted by the county. Brownsville ISD Set To Name Edinburg’s Gutierrez As Superintendent
Edinburg schools superintendent Rene Gutierrez reportedly is to be named the new superintendent of Brownsville schools. Brownsville school district trustees have called a special meeting this week to name Dr. Gutierrez as the lone finalist for the position. Gutierrez would take over for Dr. Esperanza Zendejas, who after 3-1/2 years as superintendent, reached a separation agreement with the district in February after trustees had placed her on administrative leave.
