SEATTLE -- Seattle Police say a 39-year-old woman was seriously injured after being hit by a van Thursday in a suspected DUI crash in the Dunlap neighborhood.
The crash was reported at about 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. and S. Henderson Street.
Police say the driver of the van was located several blocks away from the crash scene after he allegedly tried to flee. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

EVERETT, Wash. — A former middle school teacher in northwestern Washington state has been sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to sexual communication with a teen.
The Daily Herald reports 49-year-old Paul Chonka pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge, stemming from conversations with a 14-year-old student last summer.

SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- A 34-year-old man shot and killed his parents days before fatally shooting himself at their Sammamish home, authorities said Thursday.
The King County Sheriff's Office says that Matthew Ficken killed his parents, identified by the county medical examiner as Lorraine and Robert Ficken, sometime between the evening of Jan. 10 and the morning of Jan. 11. Officials say he appears to have continued living at the home in the 23900 block of SE 42nd Place after killing his parents.

PARMA, Ohio – A man and his mother are behind bars after a missing 16-year-old Iowa girl was found in Ohio.
The teen was last seen on Jan. 4 in Colesburg, Iowa. Her grandparents found a handwritten note saying she was moving to California.
Investigators tracked her to Parma, where she was located on Wednesday.

SEATTLE — Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson says the U.S. Navy dumped hazardous waste, including copper and zinc, into Puget Sound and must be stopped from doing it again.
The Seattle Times reports Ferguson's office notified the Navy Thursday of the state's intent to join a suit in federal court to ask the Navy to clean up the mess and to require it to stop scraping ships at Navy Base Kitsap and dumping the material in Sinclair Inlet.

MANKATO, Minn. – A Minnesota woman has been charged with child endangerment after her 2-year-old, who was in a car seat, fell out of her moving vehicle earlier this week.
KMSP reports that Maimuna Kunow Hassan faces up to one year in prison and a $3,000 fine for the gross misdemeanor. She has also been charged with improperly restraining her child in the car seat and violating her driver's permit because there was not another licensed driver in the vehicle.

The truck and bus both ran into a power pole, causing some power outages in the immediate area. South 128th Street at State Route 509 will be closed for several hours.
