Churches and non-profits are expanding normal outreach to include federal employees impacted by the ongoing partial government shutdown. In Montgomery County, the Greater DC Diaper Bank stocked the shelves to the rafters with more than 600,000 diapers. In Prince George's County, First Baptist Church of Glenarden packed more than 3,000 bags of food. Baby necessities, such as diapers, wipes and formula, are expensive.

On Monday, a Virginia mosque temporarily turned into a food-bank. There, dozens of Muslim volunteers packaged hundreds of bags of food for people in need. As Northern Virginia Bureau Chief Tim Barber reports in the video above, that now includes furloughed government workers.

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a man was shot and killed at a suburban Chicago mall and the suspect remains at large.
Orland Park police say the 19-year-old was shot in the center of Orland Square Mall and ran away before collapsing outside a clothing store Monday evening. The man later died at the hospital.

RED BANK, N. J. (AP) — A restaurant owned by musician and New Jersey native Jon Bon Jovi is providing free meals to local government workers and their families during the federal government shutdown. JBJ Soul Kitchen in Red Bank announced on Facebook it will provide the free meals to furloughed workers Monday between 12 p. m. and 2 p. m. The meals are a result of a partnership between Gov. Phil Murphy's organization the Phil and Tammy Murphy Family Foundation.

A 12-year-old girl has died in suburban Chicago after a snow fort collapsed while she was playing outside a church. Arlington Heights police are calling it a "tragic accident. "Police identified the girl as Esther Jung. She was playing with a 9-year-old girl in the snow outside Rothem Church on Sunday. Their families began looking for them about an hour later and found them under the snow. The younger girl survived. It's not known how long the girls were trapped.
