Nearly three-fourths of a century has passed, but for veterans like Col. Frederick Clinton, it feels like yesterday. “74 years ago, I was as happy as a bug in a rug,” Clinton said, smiling. “The war was over in Europe. ”Clinton joined the Army at 16 years old. “I drafted and lied about my age a little bit,” he said. He says he came to the World War II Memorial, especially on V-E Day, to honor those who gave so much.
